It has been
more than 2 1/2 years since I was diagnosed with marginal zone B cell
lymphoma via a lump in my right breast (I was 45 yrs old at that
time). Initial unilateral bone marrow biopsy revealed lymphoid
aggregates. Doc at Univ. of Pennsylvania did not believe this
indicated bone marrow involvement. I thought the lump would be
removed, I'd have radiation, and put it all behind me.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) the
second opinion doc did not agree and I had bilateral bone marrow
biopsy to confirm/deny his opinion. The pathologist found and
concluded bone marrow involvement and I've been on W & W since.
Due to the "controversy," I sought a third opinion from
Sloan Kettering. The SK doctor agreed with Stave IV dx and
w&w. I was and continue to be asymptomatic.
This group
was my lifeline during the first six months giving me the support and
guidance that neither my friends or family could. I corresponded
and talked with two very supportive women who shared a nearly
identical diagnosis - ellens and jcvining. I owe those two ladies a
very big debt.
In October
2000 I attended the Patient Forum in Brooklyn, New York. The
conference helped me to believe that I had many healthy years ahead of
me. I met people who had been diagnosed nine, twelve, and
eighteen years earlier who were living very productive happy lives.
I also learned about current treatments and clinical studies of
cocktail combo drugs. When the time for treatment comes I
believe I'll be better prepared to make informed decisions about the
course to take.
Thank you
Carol and everyone for sharing your stories, hope, insights and
support.
Very sincerely,
Lisa Clanet
